In world history, except for the United States, there are no countries that have used nuclear weapons, said State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, recalling the anniversary of the atomic bombings of Japanese Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

«Washington killed hundreds of thousands of civilians, solely to show its might and intimidate the whole world. <…> August 6 and 9 should be the days of Washington's repentance to humanity for the crimes committed against civilians,— Volodin pointed out.

He stated that the United States throughout its existence based policy “on colonial principles”; and lived at the expense of other countries, marking Ukraine among other such states.

At the end of World War II, on August 6, 1945, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, and three days later— to Nagasaki. After that, Japan announced its surrender, the signing of the act of surrender became the formal end of the war.

According to various estimates, 70 & ndash; 100 thousand people died from the explosions. Five years later, from radioactive contamination, cancer and other delayed effects, the total death toll could exceed 300 thousand people.

Hiroshima Mayor Kazumi Matsui called on all states to renounce nuclear weapons at a ceremony to commemorate the victims of the atomic bombing. “Humanity is still threatened by the revival of the picture of hell that arose in Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. It is necessary that all buttons for launching nuclear missiles become redundant. In this regard, we should once again reflect on the words of the writer Leo Tolstoy: “You cannot build happiness on someone else’s misfortune, but it is in the happiness of others that your happiness is hidden,” & mdash; said Matsui.

His opinion was supported by UN Secretary General António Guterres. “It is absolutely unacceptable that nuclear-weapon states allow the possibility of nuclear war,” — he said. According to him, world leaders need to permanently abandon the possibility of using nuclear weapons.

Guterres had previously advocated the abandonment of nuclear weapons. In August, the UN holds a Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference. Speaking at it, Guterres stressed that, despite the assurances of the states— holders of nuclear weapons not to use them, the only guarantee of this is the complete elimination of such weapons.

At the same conference, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken assured that Washington would use nuclear weapons only in exceptional circumstances and in order to protect the vital interests of the States and their partners. Russian President Vladimir Putin, in his greetings to the conference participants, said that there can be no winners in a nuclear war, therefore it must never be unleashed, and stressed the importance of the NPT.

A few days after the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine Putin ordered that deterrence forces, which include strategic nuclear forces, be put on special alert. The Russian authorities in April noted a “very significant” the risk of nuclear war. Putin pointed out that Moscow does not threaten anyone with nuclear weapons, but it is worth remembering that it has them. At the same time, the Foreign Ministry ruled out the use of these weapons by Russia as part of the military operation in Ukraine.

Washington called for a reduction in the number of statements about nuclear war and called statements about the possibility of using nuclear weapons dangerous and not useful.
