Warner, Sony & Universal Music Groups Donate Millions to Fight Racial Injustice

Warner Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and Universal Music Group have all announced major donations to fight for social justice and racial equality.

Recording artist The Weeknd recently donated $500,000 to various related causes and called on the big three record labels, as well as Spotify and Apple Music to make their own donations.

Along with the announcement of a $100 million fund supporting social justice and racial equality, WMG’s CEO Steve Cooper said:

This fund will support the extraordinary, dedicated organizations that are on the front lines of the fight against racism and injustice, and that help those in need across the music industry. Our advisory panel, which will draw from a diverse cross-section of people from our team and the wider community, will help us be very thoughtful and accountable in how we make an impact. We’re determined to contribute, on a sustained long-term basis, to the effort to bring about real change.

Sony Music Group also donated $100 million and Chairman Rob Stringer provided a statement:

Racial injustice is a global issue that affects our artists, songwriters, our people and of course society at large. We stand against discrimination everywhere and we will take action accordingly with our community fully involved in effectively using these funds.

Universal announced a $25 million donation and task force:

Task Force for Meaningful Change (TFMC) was created as a driving force for the ongoing fight for equality, justice and inclusion. We are charged with reviewing the company’s commitment to addressing and promoting tolerance, equality, and elimination of bias, within UMG, the music community and the world at large. It is our mission to identify the gaps and deficiencies and to strengthen UMG’s plan with new initiatives.

Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music and more are also giving back — here’s how.

REPORT: Piracy Has Spiked Since Coronavirus Lockdowns

According to analysis company Muso, a “leading authority in digital piracy,” and a new report via Digital Music News, media piracy is experiencing a significant boom during COVID-19 lockdowns.

The data showed that Americans are the biggest media pirates in the world, visiting piracy sits more than a billion times just in March alone. Russia was next with around 727 million visits and India came in at 581 million.

Muso’s report didn’t specify how many of the visits pertained to music piracy specifically.

However, total piracy visits pertaining to movies/film in the U.S. jumped by around 30% in the last week of March when lockdown was announced compared to the last week of February.

Software piracy also experienced a bump of nearly 25%. The increase in movie watching and software use can both be attributed to more free time at home and the opportunity to learn new skills, such as Photoshop or Premiere.

Muso CEO Andy Chatterley said: “Piracy or unlicensed consumption trends are closely linked to paid-for or licensed content. So, just as Netflix has seen large subscriber gains, we have seen a significant spike in visits to film piracy sites.”

While new music immediately appears on streaming platforms like Spotify or Apple Music, new movies often take weeks or months to reach streaming platforms, likely contributing to the higher spike in piracy compared to music.

Alkaline Overthrows Vybz Kartel For Top Dancehall Song This Week

Alkaline has overthrows Vybz Kartel for the top dancehall song spot this week.

Vybz Kartel’s “Mhm Hm” was the leading song in dancehall at least until this week when it was overthrown by Alkaline’s hot new single “Suave.” The rivalry between Kartel and Alkaline is showing no signs of slowing down and this can only means more hit songs for their respective fans. This week, the Vendetta leader seems to have the upper hand with two new singles bubbling on the dancehall airwaves.

Since it’s released a week ago, Suave clocked 1.2 million views on YouTube and around 3.5 million streams on Apple Music and Spotify. Coupled that with airplay on radio and in parties helped pushed the song to the top spot in the dancehall space in a week. Vybz Kartel’s new single “Kremlin” produced by Rvssian is also doing very well with around 850,000 views on YouTube. That song was also released the same day that Alkaline dropped “Suave” and is currently the second most listened to dancehall song over the past week.

There is currently an intense debate among dancehall fans on social media about which of the two songs is better. You can share your thoughts in the comments below.

CyHi The Prynce & Kanye West Drop Joint Single “Dat Side”

CyHi The Prynce and Kanye West teamed up once again for a new single “Dat Side” and you can now find it on iTunes/Apple Music.

Been a while since we’ve heard from Kanye West and since around the beginning of the summer of this year we heard that he was locked away working on a new album. On this track, CyHi The Prynce raps about Atlanta, selling drugs and banging females. If you’re not into all of what he is rapping about then simply just stand on the sidelines.

Kanye West follows a similar pattern in his lines over a piano-laden beat. “All the haters hating, wait a minute, stand on dat side / Moved into a neighborhood where I’m the only black guy / People claim they praying for you, really they be preying on you / All this sh*t is weighing on you, don’t look back, they gaining on you,” Kanye raps.

The track “Dat Side” is like a new anti-hater anthem to help you get by for the rest of the year and CyHi and Kanye did a pretty good job with their wordplay. Listen to the track on Apple Music below.

Chris Brown Gets Eight Platinum Plaque For Old Singles

Chris Brown currently has a lot to be celebrating right now with eight of his singles getting multi-platinum certifications.

On October 3, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) issued eight new platinum plaques to Chris Brown for some songs that didn’t get certified in the past even though they sold millions. One song “Look At Me Now” featuring Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes which was released in 2011 was certified five times platinum by the RIAA.

Three of the singles “She Ain’t You,” “Strip,” “Beautiful People,” and “Back To Sleep” gets certified platinum, while “Don’t Wake Me Up,” “Deuces,” and “Yeah 3X” are all certified two times platinum. For a single to be certified platinum it would need to sell one million units and in the age of music streaming, 150 streams equal to one unit sold.

Chris Brown is currently working on his new album Heartbreak on a Full Moon due for release on October 31st. The massive project comes with 45 tracks and guest features from Usher, Gucci Mane, Young Thug, Def Loaf, Lil Yachty, Jhene Aiko, R. Kelly, Verse Simmons, Ty Dolla $ign, Yo Gotti, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, and Kodak Black. Chris Brown previously revealed that the project will be a double-disc album which means he could very well release hard copies, as well as, digital copies on major streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify. The album also comes with some previously released singles like “Privacy,” “Only 4 Me,” and “Paradise.”

The last album Chris Brown released is Royalty back in 2015, so this is his first major project in three years so he had a lot of time to record a lot of songs. Breezy is surely looking to score some platinum records off this new album due on Halloween. This R&B crooner will be announcing his new tour in the coming weeks to support the album.

Diddy & Drake Are Hip-Hop’s Highest Earners Over Last Year

Diddy and Drake made a lot of money over the last year, more than $220 million combined and are undoubtedly the Hip-Hop Cash Kings.

The two rap titans are by far the highest earners in hip hop this past year, according to Forbes magazine. Sean “P. Diddy” Combs made a whopping $130 million, Drake made $94 million, JAY-Z made for himself $42 million, Dr. Dre raked in $34.5 million, and Chance the Rapper made $32 million who round out the top five. So you can see Diddy is leading the pack by far and is one step closer to being hip hop’s first billionaire with a current net worth of over $800 million.

Diddy is undeniably the Hip-Hop Cash King of the last decade and this year he added a lot more cash to his pocket thanks to his Bad Boy Family Reunion Tour, his ownership stake in Diageo’s Ciroc vodka, and the sale of a third of his Sean John clothing line. That sale alone raked in $70 million for the hip hop mogul. Drake has had a hugely successful year both on the road and on digital media. He was the most streamed artist on Apple Music over the past year and he also made a lot of money from endorsement deals with Apple, Nike, and Sprite. The bulk of his $94 million was made touring for his Summer Sixteen Tour with Future and his Boy Meets World Tour in Europe.

JAY-Z and Beyonce are the first billionaire couple in hip hop but JAY-Z is pulling the most weight thanks to his $200 million deal with Live Nation and Sprint investing $200 million in TIDAL. Dr. Dre significantly increased his net worth when he and his business partner Jimmy Iovine sold Beats by Dre to Apple. That deal alone earned the rapper/producer a whopping #620 million back in 2014 which is the highest payday for any musician in history. Over the past 12 months, he made $34.5 million from royalties from his vast catalog and ongoing payment from Apple. Chance the Rapper banked a cool $33 million despite being an independent rapper who never sold physical copies of his albums. He distributes his music solely digitally. He also made some big bucks from endorsement deals with Apple and Kit Kat.

Check out the full list.

1. Diddy – $130 million
2. Drake – $94 million
3. Jay Z – $42 million
4. Dr. Dre – $34.5 million
5. Chance the Rapper – $33 million

Vybz Kartel & Lorde Featured On New Major Lazer Track [Listen]

Dancehall star Vybz Kartel and pop singer Lorde is featured on a new single from Major Lazer.

The new Major Lazer track was previewed on Lazer Sound radio show on Apple Music’s Beats 1 this week and you can tell that it will be another dancehall banger. You can hear Lorde’s distinct vocals over a retro dancehall beat. She sampled Jamaican legend Yellowman’s 1984 classic “Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt.” Vybz Kartel’s vocals wasn’t in the preview, but you can see his name listed which means he will be on the full version of the single.

Kartel and Major Lazer are longtime collaborators and have in the past worked on some big hits. There was once a time on Twitter when Lorde told Diplo on Twitter that his penis was tiny, but it seems the two have put those differences aside and are now making music together. I guess we can all celebrate that moment when they make peace because now we have a potential banger from the two, and with Vybz Kartel in the mix, this will be epic.

Diplo firmed announced the single from all the way back in March of this year when he said that it’s coming but he just doesn’t know when. “I don’t know when it’s coming out, it’s pretty dope,” he said.

Listen to a preview of the upcoming single below.

‘Rockstar’ Post Malone Stage Dive And No One Caught Him

Fans didn’t treat Post Malone like the rockstar that he is when he stage dived at his concert over the weekend because no one caught him.

Fortunately for the “Rockstar” rapper he didn’t break any bones and continued rapping while on the floor. In the video clip below, you can see Post Malone on stage turning up in St. Louis. He then ran and stage dived into the crowd but everyone moved, absolutely no one didn’t even attempted to catch him. It was one of that moment where all you can do is say ouch and then laugh after you realize that he is okay.

Malone tweeted about it on Sunday while making fun of himself saying that he wish he had Lil Uzi Vert’s body. “Felt like jack black in school of rock tonight when i staged dived and nobody caught my fat as. wish i had lil uzi body,” he wrote. Someone who was close to the front row captured the whole thing on camera. Post Malone is currently having the time of his life with his new single “Rockstar” featuring 21 Savage climbed to number two on Billboard Hot 100 chart this week. He also broke the single week Apple Music streaming record.

Perhaps this fan who was video the whole thing just got himself one of those new iPhone X with glass casing and did not want to test how drop proof it is.

Watch Tommy Lee Sparta New Video “40 BALL”

Tommy Lee Sparta went on a crime spree in his new “40 Ball” music video.

Tommy Lee Sparta is keeping hardcore dancehall alive and one thing you expect from the Mobay deejay is a well put together music video. The dark cut saw the “40 Ball” deejay rolling out with his crew and you can hear the sound of the AMG Benz peeling off tires into the night. One of his loyal females then went on a date with his target before going back to his place.

She then sent Tommy Lee their location and the deejay turned up with his goons a short time later and kidnapped and tortured his target. The video was directed by 300KJA. The track is currently available on all major streaming services like Apple Music, Spotify, and Google Play.

Nicki Minaj Packs Heat On London On Da Track Song “No Flag” Feat. 21 Savage & Offset [Listen]

London On Da Track assembles an all-star team with Nicki Minaj, 21 Savage, and Offset for his new single “No Flag.”

Nicki Minaj has been teasing her verse on the single since around last night and she did say revealed that the track would be available at midnight and it was right on point on Apple Music. This week, the Young Money rapper is featured on a bunch of new singles including a track with Tasha Cobbs Leonard titled “I’m Getting Ready” and another single with Fergie titled “You Already Know.”

Clearly, the “PinkPrint” rapper has been very busy in the studio lately working on guest features. She has also been working on her new album which she promised her fans that she will deliver a classic to them. “They know my name ring bells so they still press / Say the Queen name you can get some ill press / That went right over your head, you should feel blessed / Must’ve used a lot of starch cause they still pressed,” Nicki Minaj raps.

At just 26 years old, London On Da Track has been making some of the biggest hits in hip hop over the last few years for artists like Nicki Minaj, Future, Lil Wayne, Tyga, Gucci Mane, T.I., and Young Thug. Now that he made a name for himself as a producer he is going the route of DJ Khaled to put out his own songs with other artists as guest features. This new track “No Flag” is already a hit right out the gate and is one of the most talked about new singles in hip hop this weekend. 21 Savage and Migos‘ Offset are also two of the hottest young rappers in the game at the moment so adding them to the track was the right move. Savage just released his debut album “Issa Album” while Offset and his Migos clan are working on their new album “Culture 2” which they promised will arrive sooner than later.

Go listen to London On Da Track new single “No Flag” featuring Nicki Minaj, 21 Savage, and Offset on Apple Music below.

Chanel West Coast Feat. Safaree – “New Bae” [New Music]

Chanel West Coast and Safaree Samuels teams up for a new single “New Bae.”

The heartbreak single is currently on Apple Music for streaming. The track features vocals from the “Ridiculousness” co-host singing about her new man while Safaree come through with a killer verse. “I already got a new bae / Mother****er, you’re too late / You say that you’re sorry, but I can’t believe that you’d treat me this way / You tried to come back in my life but you already know that it’s too late,” Chanel West Coast sings.

Safaree seems to be taking a few shots at his ex-girlfriend Nicki Minaj in his verse where he raps, “Listen, old bae, I’m tired of you / I don’t see the fire in you / You washed, I’ma put the dryer to you / You a geek, I see the Quagmire in you.” Safaree is currently working on his upcoming mixtape Shoulda Been Did It and recently worked with Sean Kingston and K. Michelle on some new singles. Listen to the track below.

Cardi B – “Bodak Yellow (Y2K Remix)” [New Music]

Cardi B breakout single “Bodak Yellow” keeps getting more and more remix treatment.

One of the latest remix for the single is from Y2K who posted the track on his SoundCloud account and it has been getting some attention. This is not an authorized remix so you will not likely to find it on Apple Music and Spotify, but you can stream it on SoundCloud. The original version of the track has been doing very well this summer and climb to number three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week.

This earned Cardi B the highest charting single by a female rapper since Nicki Minaj in 2014 and if she makes it to number one, she will be the undeniably top female emcee in a while. This track has surely transformed Cardi B’s profile and now industry stakeholders have no choice but to take her serious. Y2K kept most of the lyrics in tact for this remix but add another layer of lyricism to an already popping track. The remix brings a lot of fire take a listen to it below.

Tyler the Creator Denies Having A Boyfriend At 15

Odd Future rapper Tyler The Creator is either trolling us he is not yet ready to come out the closet.

The “Flower Boy” rapper revealed on Thursday that he had a boyfriend at the age of 15. In July, excerpts of some of the lyrics off his new album Flower Boy made its way online. He was rapping about being gay since he was a kid and having a white boyfriend and hiding it from his friends.

Tyler The Creator did an interview with Koopz Tunes on Know Wave radio when he admitted that he had a boyfriend at 15 years old. “I had a boyfriend when I was fifteen in f***ing Hawthorne, ni**a,” he said. “If that’s not open-minded, I don’t know what the fuck that is.” The California emcee has since tweeted that he was single at 15, but if you read his tweet you will also notice that he didn’t say he isn’t gay.

“figure of speech to get koopz ‘open minded’ point across, I was single at 15 haha,” he tweeted. Some folks are saying that all of this is just a way for him to sell more records given that he recently released his new album “Flower Boy.” Nevertheless, if Tyler the Creator is just trolling us, no one seems to be finding it funny and if not then he just takes one step back into the closet. Outside of all of this, his new album is fire and worth listening to. The album was originally leaked online a week ahead of its release, but some fans waited for it to come out through the proper channels like Apple Music and Spotify before listening to it.

Do you think that Tyler The Creator should just come out the closet fully or should he continue to play around with the idea and sell more records? Sound off in comments below.

JAY-Z Album “4:44” Now On Apple Music But Not Spotify

JAY-Z released his landmark album 4:44 exclusively on TIDAL on June 30th but now the project is available on Apple Music but not Spotify.

There were some rumors that the album wouldn’t be available for other streaming platforms but a week later JAY-Z decided to make it available on Apple Music but somehow sidestep Spotify which both controls a sizeable portion of the music streaming market. The project is also on Google Play and Amazon Prime Music. The album 4:44 is already certified platinum thanks to a deal with Sprint.

The fact that 4:44 is not on Spotify shouldn’t come as a big shock since JAY-Z pulled all of his music from Spotify back in April. It’s still unclear why Hov take down his music from Spotify but he is a major shareholder in TIDAL which is a major competitor in the music streaming business. Apple Music is second largest music streaming company behind Spotify, but JAY-Z left his music on that platform.

Sprint invested $200 million in TIDAL earlier this year and also bought a million copies of JAY-Z new album for its customers which helped pushed the album into platinum status in the first week.

21 Savage Project “Issa Album” (Stream and Download)

21 Savage finally released his debut album “Issa Album” which is now available for streaming and download on iTunes/Apple Music.

The album comes a year after the Atlanta rapper released his Savage Mode EP. The project comes with 14 new tracks and no guest features. The trap-heavy album saw productions from the likes of DJ Mustard, Southside, Pi’erre Bourne, and Metro Boomin. The album title was inspired by the famous cross tattoo on his forehead.

21 Savage has been in the news a lot lately for his relationship with Amber Rose which gave him some added publicity leading up to the album release. He also launched his Issa Website in support of the album which is an interactive web page where fans can find objects with the help of Saint Laurent Don. Savage has a lot going on for him this year with a new animated series titled “The Year 2100.”
