Manila Killa & San Holo Team Up With Nick Lopez On Dreamy New Single, “Mean It”

San Holo and Manilla Killa drop the bittersweet “Mean It” ft. Nick Lopez, out now via bitbird/Moving Castle/Counter Records. The song follows a broken hearted lover trying to navigate the brave new world independently and acts as a microcosm for the artists involved both sonically and lyrically. The song came to fruition over the pandemic and was inspired by the distances it created in everyone’s lives, coping with loss, and intimacy.

“Mean It” is such a special song because it represents the intertwining of several people’s worlds. San came over to my house one day to shoot some content for our upcoming show which was supposed to happen in March of 2020, but the world shut down soon after his visit. Kwon and singer / songwriter Nick Lopez were also present in the house and we all started talking, San started playing guitar and we began messing around on Ableton. By the end of the day we all knew we had something special with this song – and it took a life of its own as we continually worked on it over the course of the next year. It’s a song about coping with loss and intimacy which captures the essence of all of our songwriting styles and I feel like it’s a connection that people will understand while listening to it.” – Manila Killa

“Mean It” is one of those songs that came out of nowhere. I started noodling on guitar and the next thing you know we had the idea for the song. It took me coming back to LA earlier this year to finally be able to finish it off everybody. But I’m excited to finally be releasing this one alongside my show at Bill Graham with Manila Killa! – San Holo

The song is San’s first release following his latest album bb u ok? album that came earlier this year and while the single is a stand-alone release, San had lots more coming on the horizon. Listen below.

San Holo Shares Melancholy, Acoustic Cover Of Alice Deejay’s Classic, “Better Off Alone”

We seriously need more San Holo acoustic covers of EDM classics. Last October, he shared a cover of Flux Pavilion’s “I Can’t Stop” in honor of the song’s 10 year anniversary, and yesterday he shared a cover of Alice Deejay’s classic, “Better Off Alone.”

The song was recorded and released as an instrumental in 1997, co-produced by Sebastiaan Moljin and Eelke Kalberg, who would later produce as Dash Berlin. The song eventually came to include vocals by Judith Pronk, who made the song what we know it as today, and was released on Alice’s debut album, Who Needs Guitars Anyway? in 2000.

San Holo’s beautifully layered vocals and somber guitar transform the song from an electronic/trance, dancefloor classic into a melancholy, sonderous ballad.

As I said before, we need more of these, or at least a full version of this cover. As I’ve been writing this, the song has been playing on repeat in the background and it’s simply wonderful. Listen below.

better off alone…? ❤️
RT if this song still makes u 🥺

The highly-anticipated collaboration between San Holo and Chet Porter is finally here! “you’ve changed, i’ve changed” comes via San Holo’s label, Bitbird, a leader in the future bass and downtempo music space.

“you’ve changed, i’ve changed” kicks off with a bright guitar solo that you simply can’t resist. Wistful lyrics are introduced before a simultaneously high-energy and chilled out chorus. In addition to blending genres, the song is a delicate balance between cheerful and sad, conveying complex emotions that can fit any mood.

The single marks Chet Porter’s first single back since the 2020 collaboration with Alison Wonderland, “Bummed.” However, he recently hinted on Instagram that there might be more in store soon.

For San Holo, “you’ve changed, i’ve changed” is the latest track from a busy release schedule leading up to the release of his new album, bb u ok?, out on June 4.

San Holo Drops 2 More ‘bb u ok?’ Singles Ahead of Album Release [LISTEN]

San Holo just unleashed two more tracks — “black and white” and “MY FAULT” — ahead of his forthcoming album bb u ok?, due out May 21.

The first track “black and white” builds on the fiercely emotive tones we’ve heard from the album thus far, carving a delicate, uplifting space of its own with a plethora of vibrant elements. Meanwhile, “MY FAULT” takes an unexpected turn, as soft lyrics and light guitar strums are overtaken by gritty synths, and the experimental production only builds from there.

“MY FAULT is an acoustic-ish song that means so much to me,” San Holo shares, “it ain’t a good ‘radio song.’ it’s not a good ‘playlist song.’ however, it’s one of the most important songs i’ve written. love!”

San Holo’s double drop aligns with previously released album singles “IT HURTS!,” title track “bb u ok?” and “find your way” with Bipolar Sunshine. As we know from the tracklist, there are plenty more unheard collabs to come with The Nicholas, American Football, Rivers Cuomo of Weezer, Chet Porter, Mija & Mr. Carmack, and one more with Bipolar Sunshine.

San Holo Drops Another Emotive Album Single “IT HURTS!” [LISTEN]

San Holo released a new song today to put you in your feelings.

The production is a smooth, easy listen, working emotional synths and guitar, as well as subtle trap elements to shape a perfect storm of feels. The production builds, and swells, tugging on heart strings before making you want to scream “IT HURTS!” And, that’s totally ok — just let it out.

San Holo shares of the release:

I wrote “IT HURTS” about love originally, but just like a lot of my music it’s just as applicable to life in general. There are ups and downs in life and plenty of moments that ‘hurt’. Life can be tough. Life can be ugly. But it’s that pain that makes it all ‘real’, whether that’s pain coming from love, or just the struggles of life in general. Sometimes feeling pain is better than feeling nothing at all. Everything shapes you into who you are — the good and the bad.

Time and time again, San expertly and beautifully melds electronic with instrumental, producer with singer/songwriter, to create something thoughtful and authentic. “IT HURTS!” is no exception.

San Holo says goodbye to 2020 with heartfelt hour-long set

If there’s anyone in the EDM scene we can all consistently look to for some emotional support in these trying times, it’s San Holo. With his particular brand of beautiful melodies, toned down vocals, slow tempo, and more, his vibe is all about positivity and making his fans feel good.

Thankfully, 2020 is nearly over, but that doesn’t mean that the hardships we faced this year are going to automatically be over. Still, it will be nice to finally put this dumpster fire of a year behind us and at least try to mentally start fresh in 2021. While we all come up with New Year resolutions to better ourselves or at least get back to some semblance of homeostasis, you can listen to San’s “goodbye 2020 set” and get your emotions in order.

Check it out below!

San Holo Drops Ethereal Edit of Frank Ocean’s “White Ferrari” [WATCH]

We have absolutely fallen in love with the magic that is San Holo‘s “White Ferrari” edit.

Frank Ocean‘s masterpiece is padded up and dropped into a lush, ethereal world of its own. San Holo is careful to not stray from the song’s original intent and accents the production in all the right places. It’s beautiful, emotional, flawless — all of the above — and it’s also blowing up on Twitter.

Really, there are no words to describe how amazing this is. Just listen.

And if you’re craving more San Holo, we also recommend his latest collaboration “Honest” with Broods. And, literally, every San Holo song ever.

Digital Mirage Day 2 Is LIVE: San Holo, Boys Noize, Netsky & More [LIVE STREAM]

Yesterday’s Digital Mirage live stream was absolutely one for the books. As we mentioned before, the difference that two months make from the first iteration to now, especially in quality of scenery and creativity in the artists’ streams, is night and day.

Between Chet Porter, ZHU, Blanke, Deathpact, and more, the quality was on another level.

Today, we have another round of artists that are sure to make a statement. The first set comes from San Holo who is doing the “world’s first slow motion DJ set” — he recorded his set at double the speed and then slowed it down in post which created a terrifically trippy effect.

tomorrow im premiering worlds first slow motion DJ set! we recorded the set twice as fast and then we slowed it all down again! it feels like a trip! ILY! ↑% ↑% ↑% ↑% ↑%

Following the enormous success of the first Digital Mirage Festival, LA-based independent electronic music brands Proximity and Brownies & Lemonade today announced their return to the virtual festival community with Digital Mirage 2, slated to take place June 5-7, 2020.

Over the span of three days in April, Digital Mirage made its mark as one of the first major live-streamed music festivals, drawing in over one million attendees across the weekend. The event raised over $300,000 to benefit Sweet Musicians Relief Fund, a charity committed to supporting musicians and music industry professionals whose primary income source has been severely affected due to the effects of Covid-19. Audience members were graced with fifty performances from artists like Alison Wonderland, SOFI TUKKER, Valentino Khan, TOKiMONSTA, Louis the Child, Chet Porter, Mija, Ghastly, Keys N Krates and more.

The festival, completely free of charge, generates funds through participant donations, sponsorships, and a 50/50 artist revenue split of the donations raised. Proximity Teases Second Edition Of Digital Mirage Festival

Digital Mirage Online Music Festival concluded this past Sunday, having raised over $250,000 over the course of the weekend with 51 stellar artists.

Listen to sets from Digital Mirage Here

Now, everyone should start getting ready because it’s happening again. Though, we’ve known there’s a second weekend as far back as a couple weeks ago thanks to a tweet from Trap Nation, this makes it official. DJs like Felix Cartal, San Holo, and Subtronics already seem to be volunteering for the stream.

With hundreds and hundreds of DJs to choose from, we could do this four weekends in a row and still not repeat a single performer. Stay tuned for more info on Weekend 2 TBA from Proximity and Brownies & Lemonade!
